Temporary Resident Visa
Foreign nationals who need a visa to travel to Canada as visitors, workers, or students must apply for a temporary resident visa (TRV)
Tourist Visa
The temporary residence visa (TRV) is a document that Canada stamps in your passport and allows you to travel and enter the country (at the discretion of the immigration officer) upon arrival at a Canadian port of entry. It is the only Canadian visa that does not require speaking English and/or French, so you can apply for it if you do not know those languages.
Not everyone needs a TRV to enter Canada (it depends on your nationality); some require an eTA and/or just a passport.
What do you need to apply for a tourist visa?
1. Have a passport (preferably valid for more than one and/or two years).
2. Have financial resources to cover travel expenses and stay in Canada.
3. Demonstrate reasons for coming to Canada (tourism, visiting a family member and/or friend, digital nomad).
4. Not having a criminal record, deportations or being irregular in another country.
5. Have a hotel reservation and/or invitation from a friend or relative in Canada (if applicable).
6. Tentative hotel reservation (you do not need to pay for it to apply. On the other hand, having an airline ticket (when applying) is not essential; it is vital to have estimated dates and an itinerary.
7. Demonstrate ties with your country of residence (employment, studies, family, properties, businesses).
Important: This visa does not require you to know how to speak English and/or French.
What can you do with a temporary resident visa?
The visitor visa is a legal status that allows you to stay in Canada for up to six months. If you are planning to immigrate to Canada soon, you can visit to experience life here, compare work opportunities in different provinces, immerse yourself in the culture, and find the best places to live. Once your visitor visa expires, you must return to your home country before you can enter Canada again under the appropriate visa as a permanent or temporary resident (worker or student).
