📌 Canada values family reunification and offers programs to help citizens and permanent residents bring their loved ones to live permanently in Canada. Through Family Sponsorship, you can help a close relative become a Canadian permanent resident, allowing them to live, work, and study in Canada.

  • 👪 Who Can You Sponsor?

    You may be eligible to sponsor the following family members:

    ✅ 1. Spouse, Common-Law, or Conjugal Partner

    • Must be 18 or older

    • Must be in a genuine relationship with the sponsor

    • Can be living inside or outside Canada

    ✅ 2. Dependent Children

    • Under 22 years old and not married

    • Children over 22 may qualify if they depend on the sponsor due to a physical or mental condition

    ✅ 3. Parents and Grandparents

    • Must submit an Interest to Sponsor form when the program opens

    • Sponsors must meet income requirements for the past 3 years

    ✅ 4. Other Relatives (in limited cases)

    • Orphaned siblings, nieces, nephews, or grandchildren under 18

    • One extended relative if the sponsor has no other eligible family to sponsor

To sponsor a relative, you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or registered under the Indian Act

  • Live in Canada (or plan to return before your sponsored relative arrives)

  • Meet financial requirements (especially for parents/grandparents)

  • Sign a sponsorship agreement committing to support the person for a set period

  • Not be in default of any previous sponsorship, immigration loan, or legal obligation

🕒 Processing Times (Approximate)

  • Spouse/Partner Sponsorship: ~12 months

  • Dependent Children: ~8–12 months

  • Parents and Grandparents: Varies, based on annual cap
